Henry Clemons

Henry Clemons enlisted on February 26, 1862 in Circleville, Ohio.  Before the war Clemons was a harness maker in Circleville and married Maria Stover on March 5, 1861 (they would have six children).  Twenty-five years old when he enlisted, Clemons served as a sergeant in Company C of the 61st but on January 1, 1863 was reduced to the rank of private.  Clemons mustered out as a private on March 31, 1865 when his terms of service expired.  Returning to Circleville, Clemons resumed his harness making business.  He died January 13, 1916 of pneumonia at the home of his daughter in Columbus.  Clemons is buried in Circleville’s Forest Cemetery.
